A surprise New York Premiere adds to the excitement of the current season.  I composed the piano and video work Face of the Deep for the remarkable pianist Jenny Q. Chai, this past summer. She gave the premiere in Boston in September, and will play it again in Dayton in late October.  But she just announced that she’ll bring it to NYC on November 6!  It’s part of her program Aqua Alta – a provocative set of works about climate change and rising sea levels, and our relationship with water in general.  And this will be just one of four premieres this season, two of them New York: Face of the Deep; Reflexions for solo marimba; Sinfonietta for the South Dakota Symphony; and Miss Ellen Terry as Lady Macbeth, for pianist Yoonie Han.  Right now I’m enjoying the final stages of composing the Sinfonietta – it’s such a thrill when a major piece comes together.
